Welcome to your guide for selecting courses for Year 11, 2026.

This is an important step in progressing towards your goals and aspirations post-secondary schooling. You may have a firm idea of what you would like to do after Year 12 and what career pathway you want to take. It is fine if you don’t though, this is an ongoing process and it may take some time before you know exactly which direction you want to take regarding your career pathway.

Please take the time to explore your options, discover new opportunities, figure out where your strengths lie and choose an appropriate pathway that will help maximise your potential.

There is a lot of information that you will need to understand, so it is essential that you take the time to carefully read what is provided and to ask questions if you are unsure.

Important Dates – Term 2

Careers Exploration – to use during the Careers Expo
– Students and parents are encourage to explore the resources available to them via the Careers Exploration page
Course and Careers Information – Weeks 3 to 8 
Parents and students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the different pathways and courses on offer at Rossmoyne that will best fit the student’s ability, future career, and further study aspirations using the following resources: 
2026 Year 11 Curriculum HandbookYear 11 handbook 2025  (to be updated in Term 2)
Learning Areas – students are encouraged to talk to their teachers about courses specific to their Learning Areas. Each of the learning areas has also created a video and further information about each of the courses available at Course Information
– All Year 10 students will attend the Careers Expo at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday 16 May. Further information and resources for the Expo are found at: Careers Expo
VET information – a parent information evening will be scheduled – Date TBA. Further details of this will be sent to all parents closer to the date. More information can be found in the course pages at Career and Vocational Education
– A Senior School Course Expo will be held at the school on Wednesday 18 June for students to gather more information about the courses available at Rossmoyne SHS in Years 11 and 12. This will be an expo style event, held in the Hub, giving students the opportunity to seek information about the courses they are interested in.
– The Schools Curriculum & Standards Authority (SCSA) provide a useful Year 10 Information Handbook 
Year 10 CATs – Week 5 and 6
Year 10s will sit extended Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) in their MESH subjects in Weeks 6 and 7 of Term 2. Each of the CATs will run for between 90 and 100 minutes, and will impact on two periods.
English – Friday 30 May during Periods 3 and 4
Maths – Tuesday 3 June during Periods 3 and 4
HASS – Wednesday 4 June during Periods 1 and 2
Science – Friday 6 June during Period 1
Year 10s will also have extended CATs in Term 4.
Course Selections – Week 8
Subject Selections Online (SSO) open for students to make selections. Detailed information will be emailed home to parents and students with a “How To” guide made available.  
Course Counselling Interviews – Weeks 9 and 10 
– Students are invited to attend a Course Counselling interview with a school Course Counsellor. Parents are welcome to join the interview, by phone or in person. Students and parents can select an appropriate time for the interview, in the two week window, via the booking system in SSO.
