Accessing the school network with your MacBooks

There have been major changes to the school network over the holidays. Your old username and password no longer work. Your new username is the first part of your Department of Education email address: firstname.lastname (possibly with a number at the end depending on how common the name is). Your tute teacher has a copy of both your username and password. Once you have your username and password, follow the instructions on the attached document to connect your MacBook. Your new username and password will not work on your MacBook until you have logged onto a Windows computer at the school and changed the password (in the library or computer lab).

Logging in to Moodle

Once you have connected to the network or have logged in on a school computer, you can use your new username and password to log in to the school Moodle site, www.www.rossmoyneshs.wa.edu.au. Almost all of the old usernames have been transferred over to the new ones, so you should all still be enrolled in the same courses. There was a problem with a few usernames, including those with spaces in them.  These students will need to ask their teachers to re-enrol them in classes they were previously enrolled in last term.

New email

Some of you are aware that your Department of Education email is now a Microsoft Live.edu account. This brings students many benefits, including an almost unlimited quota on your email. (You'll never need to delete any messages again!) This can be accessed from the address portal.det.wa.edu.au. Use the same username and password you use at school and for Moodle.

Ongoing changes to the network

Over the next two to three weeks, there will be continual changes to the school network. A team of network experts will be on site during this time making the changes and dealing with problems. Please bear with us, you are bound to run into problems during this time, particularly with printing and connecting to the network. It may take several weeks before things are back to normal.

You will need to use the password provided to you by your Tute teacher for the time being. Shortly, teachers will be shown how they can change your password for you, it will no longer be necessary to ask at the IT office.
