The following questions ask you to become familiar with the meaning of average rate of change and understand its meaning in the context of processes we see every day.

You will be able to explain how it is calculated and compare it to instantaneous rates of change.

Each question (there are three) will be marked out of 10 for a total of 30 points for all three.

You have identified the overall feature of the change. Many of the details are missing.
You have identified and explained the some of the rates of change. There are some inaccuracies in your analysis.
You have identified and described the rates of change appropriately or demonstrated a clear understanding of how rates are related to the question.
You have identified and described the rates of change appropriately and put forward a possible model for the relationship and describe how it relates to the rate of change or you have made clear and descriptive connections beyond the question.
