    1. Read the readings on online scams, privacy and ethical use of ICT

    4. Complete the Elements and Principles activities

    You should have completed Step One of Task One : Use this week’s resources to complete Step 2 of the Task

    Week Three

    This week you will:

    1. Complete the remaining steps 4 and 5 of Task One and hand it in this week
    2. Read the readings on Computer Hardware, Storage and Operating Systems - you have a quiz on this!
    3. Complete Activity designing for audience
    4. Complete the Activity design elements
    5. Start reading about Computer Memory and input and output devices
    6. Complete the computer hardware activity  and the quiz revision document: hardware revision activity

    Week Four

    This week you should start task two – Web design research.

    We are continuing to learn about computer hardware. Last week’s readings gave you some background information about computer systems. This week you use this information to consolidate your knowledge by completing a set of activities. Note: your Design/ Hardware Quiz/Exam will take questions from these documents.

    1. Read the Task2 sheet and contact your supervisor if you have any questions.
    2. Make sure you have completed the exercises on design elements and principles from week two and three.
    3. Complete  Hardware worksheet  1 input
    4. Complete Hardware worksheet  2 output
    5. Complete Word exercises Borders and text effects
    6. Complete the Excel exercises 4,5 and 6

    Week Five

    Start Task Two

    This week you are to work on Task Two.

    First, complete the section of the task on Design Principles and Elements, and save your work as task 2 research. You will need to submit this as part of your task.

    Task two Design principles- an extract from the task follows: Research principles of design and explain the following Balance, emphasis (contrast and proportion) dominance and rhythm. AND

    Design elements - Research elements of design and explain the following: line, shape, texture and colour

    Second, You need to find some examples of these elements and principles on the web.  You then need to screen capture them (or copy and paste) in order to make them an image file. You can then paste this image into blank PowerPoint slides. Once you have the image in your slide – use the text box, lines, and arrows in PowerPoint to annotate, or explain, the image. Save your work as a .ppt file.

    Next: complete the readings for this week so you are ready to complete the task next week.

    Finally - Choose a web creation software package - for example iWeb, FrontPage or Dreamweaver.

    You need to start learning how to use these packages. You should look for online for tutorials. DO NOT leave this until you start task 4!

    Week 6

    By now you have completed Tasks One and nearly completed Two, the Word and Excel exercises, selected a webpage creation tool/software and been using tutorials to help you  use it.

    Don't forget you have a hardware and design quiz coming up in week 7 - so make sure you are up to date with the work!

    The next two weeks focus on planning your website (Tasks 3 and 4).

    The majority of your lesson time will be spent completing the tasks ready for submission on August 16.

    To do: Lesson One Week 6:

    1. Read Task Three and commence a Journal. You must keep a journal for this task. In your journal keep notes on what you achieve in each lesson. Include details of decisions you have made and why you have made those decisions. An example is provided in the task sheet for you.
    2. Work out a timeline and plan the next three weeks – you will need to read through Task Four to help you.

    Lesson Two Week 6

    1. Complete the task three proposal using the guiding questions in the task sheet

    1. Complete the directory structure for your website

    Lessons Four and Five Week 6

    1. Prepare a navigation flow chart

    Start to create your draft sketches of your website. you need to create at least three rough drafts of how you intend to layout your webpage. These drafts would be used to give the developer an idea of what you intend to produce. Include details such as navigation and multimedia. These do not need to be on paper hand drawn sketches (you can use a drawing or painint program) If you do use paper - ethier scan your paper and upload it OR drop your work off to Mr haley or Mr Withers

    • Include annotated notes on these drafts outlining key design features.
    • Relate these design features back to the principals and elements of design you discussed in Task 2.

    Week 7

    This week you complete Task Three.

    Hand Task 3 in this week using the submission space below – You have already submitted the proposal, directory and navigation sections However, use the checklist below to make sure you have put every item of work into a single document ready for marking

    Week 8 Last week of AIT 1A

    This week you complete Task Four ready to submit on August 18. (You have an extra weekend)

    Hand Task 4 in this week using the submission space below

    BACKUP YOUR WEBSITE – every lesson or every second lesson make a copy of the folder that contains your website. If anything goes horrible wrong you can always go back to one of these copies.

    To do

    Lesson One Week 8:

    Continue on with your journal and finalise all graphics you need.

    Graphics: You will also need to produce some graphics for your website. This must include a logo of your own creation and some other elements such as buttons used on the site. All graphics not of your own creation need to be referenced properly.

    Lesson Two Week 8

    Create alternative designs; this could be as simple as different possible colour choices. Save different versions of your graphics as you develop them and include these in your notes to show the progression.

    Lessons Three, Four and Five Week 8

    Website

    You website must contain at least three “completed” pages. All other pages must also be created but they can be left incomplete without losing marks.

    Check your links you should put your website onto a thumb drive and test it on another computer to check you correctly inserted your images and created your links.

    Final lesson - complete the evaluation questions

       1. Compare your proposal with your finished product.

       2. Did you do what you originally set out to do?

       3. What changes did you make? Why?

       4. What worked well in your webpage? What elements do you like?

       5. What didn't work well?

    Week 1 and 2 AIT 1B Start Task One Lesson One and Two: Recommend a computer system for Desktop Publishing.

    Go to computer sales store websites and compare at least two computers for sale. Harvey Norman is a great place to start, look for a budget (home) computer and a high end (gaming) computer and download or copy and paste the specifications.

    Save this information and include it in your task.

    AIT 1B

    Task 3 Project

    Due: Monday Week 2 Term 4

     

    While at school, you have been able to use information such as pictures, music and data freely from websites on the internet. You can do this because of a special condition granted to you under the Copyright Act.  It is called Fair Dealing and as students you have some protection from prosecution from copyright owners. Your teacher’s also have a special condition (Part 5B) of the Act which allows them to use (with restrictions) copyright material for student instruction.

    However, you are about to leave school and the way you use copyright material – especially online -will change.  The full Copyright Act and some other laws will apply to you.

    TASK: You are required to produce a presentation and podcast which informs your peers about how the Copyright Act, Intellectual Property will affect you as an adult and how you can use the Spam Act and Privacy Act to protect yourself and your rights.

  • 30 September - 6 October

    This week you should start on the research document section of the task. Try to complete the work outlined below on LEGAL issues before the end of the week:

    Use the website links to help you

    1. Research Document (15 marks) – A Word document where you demonstrate that you can effectively use search engines to find the information you require. In this document, you collate and refine the information that you have found and that will be used to create the Presentation and Podcast. Marks will be awarded for:

    a)       the quality and depth of information (5 marks)

    b)       your ability to reference your sources correctly (2 marks)

    c)       your use of Word processing tools and functions (tables, margins, bullet points, etc.) and charts/graphs as demonstrated in unit 1A (8 marks)

     

    Your research must include sections and information on the following:

     

    Legal

    • The Copyright Act 1968 and how it impacts the use of music and images taken from websites on the internet (about 150 words)
    • SPAM Act 2003  and how it impacts you and the way you send emails as an adult - what can’t you do with:
      • email
      • instant messaging (IM)
      • Short Message Service (SMS) (about 150 words)
  • 7 October - 13 October

    This week complete the research section on Ethical and Social from the task

    Ethical

    • A section on what it means to be a responsible Digital Citizen (about 100 words)

    Social

    • Positive and negative impacts of digital technology on you after you leave school. (about 100 words)
  • 14 October - 20 October

    Over the Term 3 break, you should try to complete the Presentation section of this task

    1. Presentation (10 slides) (20 marks):  The presentation is to be a printable product but the format is your choice (PowerPoint, website, or brochure). You must clearly demonstrate your understanding of the following design elements and principles in your work:
    • transitions
    • animation
    • hyperlinks

    image manipulation

    • resize
    • select
    • copy
    • paste
    • crop

    a)       Marks will be awarded for sketches and designs which show how you have applied you knowledge of design from your AIT lessons this year (10 Marks)

    b)       The final presentation – quality (5 marks) features such as animations, effects and transitions (10 marks)

  • 21 October - 27 October

    First week of term 4:

    Hopefully you have a completed. or very nearly completed the presentation to submit next week.

    This week, you need to concentrate on the podcast - ask a teacher if you don't know how to make one

    Remember, all Tasks for the AIT course - both 1A and B will need to be completed by the end of next week

    1. Podcast (10 marks) Using software already loaded onto your Mac Book (Garage band), create a simple message about how someone can be, or become, a responsible digital citizen as they grow from a teenager to an adult. The duration is to be between 1 and 2 minutes and must include a recording of your own voice. Marks will be awarded for:

    a)       audio editing (2 marks)

    b)       audio effects (2 marks)

    c)       the quality and depth of the message delivered in the podcast (6 marks)
